James Gunn to direct Swamp Thing for DC Studios
Avengers: Endgame director, James Gunn is all set to direct a film version of Swamp Thing for DC Studios. The project is being produced by Warner Bros. Pictures and DC.
Gunn had previously worked in the Marvel universe and directed the Guardians of the Galaxy series, as well as The Suicide Squad. He could be found rediscovering Indiana Jones with his hit sequel, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
Swamp Thing is based on the DC comic book series of the same name. It follows a scientist turned creature of the swamp, as he fights to protect his home, the environment, and humanity.
The character last appeared in a feature film in 1982, but was adapted for a live-action television series in the early 90s, featuring the actor Dick Durock in the role of the creature.
This isn’t the first time the superhero has had a live-action adaptation. Mattel produced two Swamp Thing movies in 1989 and 1993.
Gunn is currently in post-production for The Suicide Squad which is slated for a 2021 release. He is also writing the third Guardians of the Galaxy film, as well as a spin-off series starring Peter Quill.
