“It Had to Be Said: The Future of ‘The Walking Dead’ is Tiring, Not Exciting”

Walking Dead Franchise Refuses to Die Out as More Spin-Offs are Announced

The Walking Dead franchise has made headlines again this week for various reasons, primarily due to the announcment of the series originals’ spin-off -Fear The Walking Dead- coming to an end with season 8. However, it has been announced that there are three more spin-offs in the pipeline.

The first such spin-off is The Walking Dead: Dead City which will be released in June 2023; The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, starring Norman Reedus, will also be released this year in the second half; and a third spin-off, starring Rick and Michonne, will be released in 2024.

Though the end of the original series and its spin-off signals the end of an era, it also serves as a launchpad for the new wave of zombie fiction. The franchise was beginning to show signs of exhaustion and dwindling viewer numbers, however, AMC seems intent on squeezing it for all it’s worth in the form of these three new spin-offs.

The bold move may prove to reward loyal fans with a chance to see their beloved characters in a new narrative with the slim chance of revitalizing the franchise. Only time will tell if the Walking Dead franchise can prove its critics wrong and reinvent itself for a few more years.
