Irene Montero, the former Minister of Equality, presented her candidacy for the primaries organized by Podemos for the elections to the European Parliament in a public event held at the Murcia Artillery Barracks. Montero emphasized the need to set up a left that is eager to win and transform, and to make public policies that expand public services and protect the common good.
She highlighted the changes made during Podemos’ participation in the Government, stating that Spain is different thanks to popular movements and the feminist movement, as well as the existence of Podemos. Her race to Europe is under the motto ‘Now more than ever’, emphasizing the importance of international politics in light of conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza.
Montero praised those who continue to believe that positive change is possible, stating that resignation is anti-politics. Podemos is in the midst of the primary process to designate its candidates for the next European elections and is also renewing its regional coordinators in several communities, including the Region of Murcia.
During her visit to the Region, Montero supported the candidacy of the autonomous coordinator of the purple formation, Javier Sánchez Serna, for re-election. Sánchez Serna explained his “provocative” campaign video entitled ‘Murcia is very cool’ and emphasized the importance of courage in transforming the community.
He concluded by stating that they are going to “send López Miras and Antelo to the opposition.” Montero’s speech focused on the need for a left that is eager to win and transform, and the importance of international politics in addressing conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza. She also emphasized the need for courage in transforming conservative communities and expressed support for the re-election of regional coordinators in several communities, including the Region of Murcia.
