Iran Executes British-Iranian Citizen for Alleged Espionage

Former Iranian Officer executed after being found guilty of spying for British Intelligence

A former Iranian officer named Alireza Akbari was executed this Saturday for spying for the British intelligence agency, according to Mehr media.

Iranian judicial authorities reported Alireza Akbari’s death sentence on Wednesday and he was reportedly sentenced for allegedly “spying for MI6” in exchange for “1,805,000 euros, 265,000 pounds and 50,000 US dollars”.

Despite calls to halt the hanging, no further actions have been taken by authorities and the execution went ahead as planned.

It is unknown when Akbari was found guilty and sentenced, however sources suggest he was already in jail before being convicted by the Iranian government.
