India Celebrates Seventy-Fourth Republic Day with Cultural Diversity and Military Parade
On Thursday (01.26.2023), India celebrated the seventy-fourth Republic Day with a traditional show of dances and floats, a sign of union and hope in this country of 1.4 billion inhabitants. New Delhi’s iconic Kartavya Path (the path of duty, in Hindi) witnessed a folkloric weapon show, with thousands of viewers and a flyover of 45 Indian Air Force jets.
Indian President Droupadi Murmu, accompanied by her Egyptian counterpart and her main guest, Abdelfatah al Sisi, was the main protagonist of the festive ceremony. Murmu and Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, addressed the need to combat cross-border terrorism and elevate the countries’ relations to the status of a strategic alliance.
The parade represented the cultural diversity of the nation, with a colorful procession of floats and dances from different states of the country. A contingent of women from the Central Reserve Police and a march led for the first time by a female officer were of special relevance to the event.
Before the parade, Modi paid tribute to the war memorial, as he does every year, and the event culminated in a aeronautical display of French, Russian and Indian-made weapons.
al Sisi is the first major world leader to visit India in a year as the government eagerly prepares to host the G20 summit for the first time. This marks a sign of hope and strength of the Asian giant as they celebrate India’s culture and military capabilities.
