It’s almost been a year since the big announcement that a Harry Potter television series is in the works for HBO Max. This project will feature a brand new cast, but there’s still hope that some of the original actors could make a return. At a panel during MegaCon Orlando 2024, Matthew Lewis, who played Neville Longbottom in the original films, was asked if he would consider being part of the HBO Max series. According to People, Lewis initially gave a negative response, but then revealed the character he would like to play if given the chance.

Lewis expressed his admiration for the character of Professor Lupin, played by David Thewlis in the original films. He acknowledged that Thewlis’s portrayal of the character was incomparable, but if he had to choose a character to play, it would be Professor Lupin. This isn’t the first time a Harry Potter actor has been asked about the new series. Daniel Radcliffe, who played the young wizard protagonist, mentioned that it would be strange for him to appear in the series, as it is intended to be a reboot for the franchise. He also expressed his excitement for the opportunity to tell the “full version” of the story.

The Harry Potter series was officially announced at the beginning of last year. It is said to be a faithful adaptation of the novels and has a massive 10-year commitment, although this doesn’t necessarily mean there will be 10 seasons. As of now, there is no confirmed release date for the series. Overall, fans of the franchise are eagerly anticipating the arrival of the new television series on HBO Max.
