Germany Offers Leopard-1 to Ukraine
Germany has offered Leopard-1 battle tanks to Ukraine to counter pro-Russian separatists in the Eastern part of the country. According to sources in the German Government, the Leopard 1 will be delivered to Ukraine in the coming weeks.
The Leopard 1 is widely considered to be one of the most advanced multi-purpose battle tanks in the world. It was developed in the 1960s and is currently used by multiple European countries including Germany.
This offer from the German government is seen as a sign of its support for Ukraine in its struggle against separatist forces. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko welcomed the offer, saying it would make the country more secure.
The move by Germany comes amidst rising tensions in Eastern Ukraine, with multiple reports of Russian-backed separatists engaging in large scale attacks against Ukrainian forces.
The Leopard 1 battle tanks will almost certainly bolster Ukraine’s military capabilities, but it also represents a symbolic statement of Germany’s willingness to support the country against Russian interference.
