Four people were tragically murdered in Fundación, a town in northern Colombia, according to the Police. The incident took place on Wednesday night when the victims were talking on a street and were surprised by two individuals on a motorcycle who began shooting. The commander of the Magdalena Police described the event as “unfortunate” and stated that they are actively looking for the murderers.
The area where the massacre occurred is known to be influenced by two criminal gangs: the Gulf Clan, also known as Gaitanista Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AGC), and the Pachencas. The Police did not rule out the possibility that these gangs are related to the multiple murders. In fact, a recent action in Fundación led to the capture of eight individuals, indicating ongoing criminal activity in the area.
The Platform of Defenders of Human, Environmental Rights and Leadership of the Sierra Nevada also commented on the massacre, stating that it is a consequence of the power that the AGC exercises in the area. They called for the national government to take action to defend life, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
The tragic event in Fundación serves as a reminder of the instability and dominance of criminal gangs in the area. The loss of four lives is a stark reminder of the need for immediate action to address the ongoing violence and protect the community. The national government must prioritize the safety and well-being of its citizens in the face of such senseless violence.
