Death Toll Rises in Israeli Aggression in Jenin, Palestinian Ministry of Health Reports
The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported that the death toll from the Israeli aggression in the northern West Bank city of Jenin has reached four, including an elderly woman, on January 26, 2023.
According to the organization, 13 people were wounded, three of them in serious condition. In addition, the Ministry of Health denounces that the Israeli forces “prevented the entry of ambulances to pick up the wounded” and also broke into the Government Hospital of Jenin, where “they deliberately fired tear gas canisters against the pediatric department of the hospital, which caused the children to suffocate.”
Since 2022, Israeli raids have been almost daily in towns in the West Bank – especially in the north – resulting in armed clashes with local groups, often leading to fatalities. In 2022, 170 Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire in violent incidents, making it the deadliest year in the West Bank since 2006.
In January 2023 alone, 24 Palestinians have already been killed by Israeli fire, equating to an average of almost one Palestinian being killed per day. Israel seized control of the West Bank in the 1967 Six-Day War, and it maintains to this day one of the longest military occupations in recent history.
