On Monday, Russia launched an attack on the population of Sloviansk in the Donetsk region of Ukraine, resulting in the deaths of at least two people and leaving around thirty others injured. Ukrainian President VolodÃmir Zelenski confirmed the news through his Telegram channel, along with the military chief of the Donetsk region, Pavlo Kyrylenko. The attack involved two Russian S300 rockets hitting the city, damaging five high-rise civilian buildings and seven private buildings. Emergency services are currently searching for any possible victims in the rubble of the damaged buildings.
Residents of the city were left shaken after the attack, with one witness, At Motora, describing the moment he felt a strong blow that spilled everything in his kitchen. He then heard vehicles, crying, and screaming outside. The Russian attack has been labeled as “terrorism” by President Zelenski, who shared a series of images showing the damage caused by the bombing of Sloviansk. He also vowed to bring all Russian terrorists to justice.
Aside from the attack on Sloviansk, Russian forces also reportedly bombed the nearby town of Druzhkivka. According to Pavlo Kyrylenko, the Russian bombs hit an orphanage, almost completely destroying it. While he did not mention any fatalities resulting from the attack, it is clear that Russia’s aggression in the region continues to cause great harm to the Ukrainian people.
