The port of Antwerp-Bruges is leading the way in sustainability and the fight against climate change. As part of the EU-funded PIONEERS research project, the port is testing out a number of solutions to reduce its carbon footprint.
In an interview, PIONEERS project coordinator Inge De Wolf explains the importance of having multiple partners come together to tackle this common challenge. He notes that ports are often seen as part of the problem, but they can be part of the solution.
The port is working towards becoming climate neutral by 2050. To do this, they need to be transparent and efficient, and data sharing is essential. However, they don’t have a crystal ball to tell them the way forward, so they must learn as they go.
This episode of Ocean on Euronews highlights the progress being made at the port of Antwerp-Bruges and the importance of collaboration in the transition to greening.
