FC Barcelona’s Victory in Women’s Soccer Super Cup Marred By Controversial Medallions Delivery
On December 20th, FC Barcelona beat Real Sociedad 3-0 in the Women’s Soccer Super Cup finale. Despite the impressive victory, the delivery of the medals was highly criticized by ElMillor, a controversial streamer who commented that an event like this existed was an “act of kindness and charity”.
6,339 spectators filled the Romano stadium José Fouto, despite Millor’s statements. Some images of the medal distribution have gone viral, with accusations of minimal attention from the organization.
The Association of Spanish Soccer Players (AFE) deemed the medal delivery “belittling” to the players. They compared it with the Super Cup Final in Saudi Arabia, noting that here the players weren’t recognized with the respect they deserved despite the “broad representation” in attendance.
The organization’s president, Pedro Malabia, explained that regulations were followed, but because of the “facilities and personalities on the field”, it was difficult for all players to be done.
In the end, FC Barcelona won with a clear lead and deservedly claimed the Super Cup title. Read more about the match on AS.
