El Salvador to Install Office in Haiti To Help Reduce Crime Rates

The Vice Presidency of El Salvador has announced plans to install a cooperation office in Haiti to help reduce the nation’s high crime rates. This was announced in a thread of messages on Twitter on the 26th of January 2023. On the same thread, it was mentioned that the Vice President, Félix Ulloa has travelled to Uruguay with intentions to strengthen the ties between the two countries.

Ulloa stated that El Salvador will make its experiences in other countries available to Haiti’s Territorial Control security plan to help reduce the crime rates. At the inauguration of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States summit in Buenos Aires, Ulloa reportedly said: “While other States are closing offices in Haiti due to the high rates of violence, El Salvador will open one with the desire to help fight criminal structures.”

The Government of El Salvador has attributed the reduction in homicides to its Territorial Control Plan and the emergency regime measure, both designed to combat criminal gang structures. Unfortunately, the public is unaware of any official document which outlines the State’s plan to address the gang phenomenon.
