Ecuador Intercepts Over a Ton of Cocaine Bound for Great Britain
Ecuadorian Police Seize 928 Kilos of Cocaine hidden in a tuna container
The Ecuadorian Police reported on Sunday (01.22.2023) the seizure of 928 kilos of cocaine, hidden in a container with canned tuna which was destined for Britain. The discovery took place in one of the seaports of the city of Guayaquil (southwest), where the container was separated for pre-shipment inspection.
With the help of an anti-narcotics dog they found 13 jute sacks with 929 rectangular packages, with a whitish substance, which after the field test was identified as cocaine. “This operation prevents more than nine million doses of alkaloids from reaching international markets,” said the Police in a video posted on their Twitter account.
The president of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, confirmed on Sunday that since he took office in May 2021, his government has seized more than 300 tons of drugs.
