Novak Djokovic’s impressive streak of 20 consecutive victories has been cut short by Daniil Medvedev at the ongoing Dubai ATP Tournament. The world number one Serbian started the Australian Open course in style, clinching his 22nd Grand Slam title. Though he lost the semifinal match against Medvedev, the 7th ranked player in the ATP ranking, Djokovic’s previous performances have been impeccable, despite losing a set against Tomas Machac in the first round. Medvedev, who was a former world number one, was elated about his win and said Djokovic’s opponents always have to bring their best tennis. Speaking of Djokovic’s plans, there are concerns whether he could play in the upcoming Indian Wells and Miami tournaments without being vaccinated against COVID-19, with the US authorities mandating approved vaccination for foreign visitors till April. Andrey Rublev, the defending champion in Dubai, will face Medvedev in the finals scheduled to take place on Saturday. Rublev overcame Alexander Zverev in the first semifinal and can clinch his first title of the year 2023 with a win in the finals.
