Defense seeks 4,000 new Army and Navy positions: requirements

The Ministry of Defense is looking to recruit almost 4,000 new soldiers in the Armed Forces, with over 2,800 positions available in the Army. This year, there is a significant increase in the number of places available compared to previous calls. The registration process has been officially published in the Official State Gazette (BOE).

The call to join the Armed Forces at the troop and sailor level has specific requirements and conditions that applicants must meet. First and foremost, they must be Spanish citizens or nationals of the countries detailed in the call. The minimum age required is 18 years and they must not have turned 29 years at the time of incorporation. Applicants must not have a criminal record, be involved in judicial proceedings for intentional crimes, or be deprived of their civil rights.

Candidates must also prove adequate psychophysical aptitude for the service, which is evaluated through specific tests detailed in the announcement. It is not allowed for candidates to be troops and sailors with a commitment in force, nor to be in the process of general military training to acquire said status. They must also possess, at a minimum, the title of Graduate in Compulsory Secondary Education or equivalent, which must be accredited by presenting the original certificate, copy or authentic electronic copy.

Those individuals who during the last selection cycle have resigned, did not report without justification to the training center for the general military training phase, or caused voluntary withdrawal before the specified incorporation date will not be able to present themselves without justification to the assigned position. Applicants must not be awaiting repetition of the general military training phase or have completed a previous commitment to the Armed Forces due to lack of aptitude in evaluations prior to renewal.

Candidates must not have tattoos or insertions contrary to constitutional values, nor have been classified as “Permanently Unsuitable” in previous selection processes. For the fundamental specialty of Music, it is required to have completed at least the first two years of professional artistic education in Music in the specialty of the instrument for which they are applying for a place, in a registered center.

Finally, as of January 1, 2023, candidates must not have been excluded from any selection process in the Armed Forces for testing positive for the use of drugs or psychotropic substances in the corresponding analysis tests. These requirements are essential to guarantee the suitability of candidates who wish to join the Armed Forces at the troop and sailor level, thus meeting the established eligibility standards.
