Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has been placed amongst those being investigated for the coup attempt committed by his most radical supporters on Sunday in Brasilia. Both Bolsonaro and these supporters are suspected of inciting the invasion and destruction of the headquarters of Parliament, the Presidency and the Supreme Court, amongst other state buildings.
In Peru, the week saw 21 fatalities in protests calling for the resignation of President Dina Boluarte. As a response, a cabinet reshuffle occurred in which Vicente Romero Fernández, Luis Alfonso Adrianzen and Nancy Tolentino were sworn in as new ministers of the Interior, Labor and Women’s portfolios, respectively.
Meanwhile, a judge of the Supreme Court of New York sentenced the Trump Organization to pay the maximum possible fine of 1.61 million dollars due to their operating a tax evasion scheme for years.
On the international front, Russia claimed the seizure of the Ukrainian city of Soledar, a key victory on the Russian-Ukrainian front and a source of significant significance to the Russian offensive. Ukraine, however, insisted that its forces continue to fight on. Furthermore, casualties in the Russian army were reported to amount to 114,130 with an additional 740 during the last 24 hours.
Finally, Hollywood has been mourning the death of Lisa Marie Presley, the only daughter of Elvis Presley, who received tributes from stars such as Nicolas Cage, Tom Hanks and John Travolta.
