Inhabitants Come Together To Protect Sea Turtles In Tortuguero National Park
The Tortuguero National Park, located in the Caribbean, is the home to one of the world’s most important sea turtle conservation beaches. Every year, the turtles come to the protected area to lay their eggs in the sand. Unfortunately, this ocean wildlife is slowly diminishing, making it all the more important to protect them.
To tackle this problem, the local inhabitants of Tortuguero have teamed up to create a multi-step approach to protect these precious creatures. Designated patrolling areas help identify potential threats, while public campaigns and seminars are held to further educate the community about how to approach conservation efforts. Volunteers on the island are also coming together to help build protective habitats for sea turtles.
As the situation with diminishing sea turtle populations around the world continues to worsen, it’s encouraging to see this remote island come together to protect these important creatures, despite local resources being limited.
This is just one example of how communities around the world can take initiative in protecting the environment and its precious inhabitants, no matter the difficulty.
