Colombia Arrests Suspect in Killing of Expellee Paraguayan Prosecutor
Colombian woman arrested for murder of Paraguayan anti-mafia prosecutor
Margareth L Chacón Zúñiga, a Colombian woman accused of planning, financing and logistics of the murder of Paraguayan anti-mafia prosecutor Marcelo Pecci, was arrested in Colombia on Saturday after being expelled from El Salvador. She was detained by National Civil Police in San Salvador on 18th January, 2023.
Chacón was arrested together with Salvadoran Wilber Huezo, 47, suspected of having hidden her in El Salvador were the authorities raided two houses and seized passports, laptops and mobile phones. US offered a reward of 5 million dollars to those who provide information on the case.
Margareth L Chacón Zúñiga will be presented before a guarantee control judge on Sunday to advance the prosecution process. The authorities are yet to determine the intellectual authors of the murder of Pecci, which happened in Barú in Colombia on 10th May, 2022. Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC), Tren de Aragua and Clan Insfrán are among some criminal organizations that are suspected for his murder.
Pecci was investigating cases of drug trafficking and organized crime and had done investigation on gangs in Brazil, as well as money launderers from the Triple Border of Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina.
