China Condemns Israeli Attacks on Civilians, Urges Restraint

Chinese call for moderation over Palestinian-Israeli Conflict

The Chinese Foreign Ministry has called for moderation “to all parties and in particular to Israel” in light of the recent civilian casualties due to the escalating tension in the area. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared that the priority is to avoid a worsening of the situation and that all parties must show calm and restraint to prevent the situation from getting out of control.

The Foreign Ministry expressed their “sadness” over the civilian casualties and pointed out that the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is perpetuated due to the lack of a two-state solution and by denying the legitimate aspiration of the Palestinians to establish an independent state.

Beijing called for “urgent action to create the conditions that make possible the resumption of talks between Palestine and Israel” and assured that China “will continue to work to achieve a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue.”

East Jerusalem is currently in a state of maximum alert following two firearm attacks resulting in seven Israelis dead and five wounded, while nine Palestinians were reported dead during an Israeli raid on the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank earlier in the week.

Since then, China have requested moderation and have ensured their commitment to a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue.
