Chelsea Supporters Urge Levi Colwill to Delete Social Media Photo After Defeat
Chelsea supporters have advised Levi Colwill to delete a social media photo he posted in the aftermath of the club’s defeat at Manchester United. The Blues were thumped 4-1 at Old Trafford on Thursday, forcing the club to suffer their worst season in almost two decades. Interim manager Frank Lampard has endured an eighth defeat in 10 games, ensuring Chelsea will finish in the bottom half of the table, despite spending £600m across two transfer windows.
Four different managers have occupied the Stamford Bridge hot seat during Todd Boehly’s debut season as co-owner. As a result, the club has decided to bin their in-person awards evening.
Academy Starlets Triumph
Two of Chelsea’s academy starlets are celebrating after a successful loan spell at Brighton. Levi Colwill, 20, joined the Seagulls on loan at the beginning of the season. He has made 23 appearances and is allegedly identified by Mauricio Pochettino as someone he wants to build his future Chelsea team around. Meanwhile, midfielder Billy Gilmour, also on loan at Brighton from the Blues, helped guarantee Europa League football next term with a 1-1 draw against Manchester City.
Controversial Social Media Post Attracts Negative Attention
After the defeat at Old Trafford, a fan tweeted Colwill, asking “How’s your evening going?” Colwill replied with a picture of himself and Gilmour, all smiles and the word: “Brilliant!!!!!” Some Chelsea supporters begged him to return and “save them,” but others advised him that he may want to take down the post amid the Blues’ latest dismal setback.
It comes after Colwill forgot he was still a Blues player after helping Brighton clinch Europa League football. The central defender had to be reminded he would be returning to Chelsea when speaking to The Athletic. Despite this, Colwill could not speak more highly of the set-up at the Amex. He complimented the manager, Roberto De Zerbi, calling him “world class” and predicted he would be “one of the best managers in the world,” if he isn’t already.
