Charlie Sheen has been sober for nearly six years. He decided to give up drinking to focus on raising his kids. He has a consistent lifestyle now, focused on single dad stuff and raising his 14-year-old twin boys, Max and Bob. He used to love drinking in the morning and would add scotch to his coffee. Nowadays, he wakes up around 4:30 or 5 a.m. to get an early jump on the news, work out, answer emails, and help get his kids ready for the day.

Charlie Sheen shares the twins with ex-wife Brooke Mueller and is also dad to daughters Sami, 19, and Lola, 18, with ex-wife Denise Richards, as well as daughter Cassandra, 38, with high school girlfriend Paula Profit. He decided to get sober after going back on a promise he made to his daughter while drunk. He stopped drinking to be a better dad.

He recalls a time when he had forgotten his daughter’s appointment and had already had a couple of drinks that day. He had to call a friend to take them to the appointment, and it broke his heart to see his daughter in the backseat, thinking, “Why isn’t dad driving?” He decided to stop drinking the next morning.

Charlie Sheen gave up drugs long before he stopped drinking. It wasn’t an easy process, but he felt instant evidence that this was the side he needed to be on. He couldn’t be in denial about it anymore. Now that he feels comfortable in his sobriety, he is ready to make his Hollywood comeback after watching his reputation crumble following his infamous 2011 meltdown.

In March 2011, Sheen was fired from his hit CBS series after going on a series of profanity-laced rants. He was on what he called “an epic drug run” and did several interviews in which he coined the terms “winning” and “tiger blood.” He seriously regretted the remarks a decade later, saying “it was drugs or the residual effects of drugs” that made him act so out of hand.

He is now “proud” of the choices he has made and the man he has become. He believes the growth for him post-meltdown has to start with absolute ownership of his role in all of it. He acknowledges that it was desperately juvenile.
