Cangrejeros are on the Verge of Advancing to Puerto Rico League Final Series

Cangrejeros Defeat Carolina Giants and Take 3-2 Lead in Semifinal Series

Roberto Clemente of Puerto Rico’s Cangrejeros defeated the Carolina Giants 6-5 on January 14, 2023 to take a 3-2 lead in their semifinal series. Three runs with two on base, a double by Yadiel Rivera and consecutive singles by Alejandro De Aza and Rusney Castillo, as well as a sacrifice fly by David Vidal and an RBI single by Joseph Monge gave the Cangrejeros their decisive score.

The Giants responded with four runs in the ninth, but it wasn’t enough to turn the score around. Fernando Cruz got the final out of the game to give the Cangrejeros their 3-2 lead. The victory was credited to left handed Luis Leroy Cruz, who threw six and two-thirds innings, and allowed one earned run, walked one and struck out three.

The Criollos also stayed alive in their semifinal series against the Indians by crushing them, 10-1. The Cangrejeros will now seek a fourth victory to advance to the championship phase against the winner of the other series between the Indios de Mayagüez and the Criollos two-time champions from Caguas.
