Canada Donates Armored Personnel Carriers to Kyiv Amid Consideration of Leopard 2 Tank Transfer
Canadian Defense Minister Anita Anand announced the donation of German-made Senator armored personnel carriers valued at C$90 million (US$67 million) on Wednesday. This comes as part of the C$500 million (US$373 million) military aid package for Ukraine that Canada announced in November 2022.
The Senators, which will be manufactured in Canada by the Roshel company, have the capacity to transport 11 people and may be equipped with light weapons.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is also considering sending part of the Canadian Army’s Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, however Germany has so far refused to allow the transfer of Leopard 2 tanks in the possession of its European allies.
Since early 2022, Canada has committed some C$5 billion (US$3.737 billion) of direct financial and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, of which approximately C$1 billion (US$747 million) is military aid.
