US President Joe Biden has signed an executive order aimed at toughening access to firearms in the country. The order includes measures to support shooting survivors and victims’ families in terms of mental health, before September 15 this year. Biden has also tasked the US Attorney General with adjusting the legal definition of companies selling weapons, so they comply more closely with the law that requires them to check the criminal records of potential buyers. The executive order would reduce gun sales without a criminal record check, prevent guns ending up in the hands of criminals and abusive people. The government will launch information campaigns on “Red Flag” laws that allow confiscation of firearms from those who pose a danger to others. Biden called on the Federal Trade Commission to prepare a report on how these companies promote firearm usage among minors.
