Israeli forces killed nine Palestinians and injured twenty during raid in the north of the occupied West Bank
Nine Palestinians have died and twenty have been injured this Thursday (01.26.2023) during an Israeli raid in the north of the occupied West Bank during which tear gas was fired at the pediatric unit of a hospital, according to Palestinian sources. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, nine people were killed, fifteen were injured, four of them seriously.
An Israeli military spokesman said soldiers and police forces carried out “a joint anti-terrorist operation” with the aim of “stopping a terrorist squad” of the Islamist movement Islamic Jihad. During the raid, the squadron opened fire on the Israeli security forces after which there was an exchange of fire and “three terrorists were neutralized.”
Palestinian youths hurled cobblestones at the Israeli military while they also fired live ammunition at other armed suspects they clashed with in the alleyways of the refugee camp, the same source added.
The Israeli army says it is investigating the cases of other deaths registered by the Palestinian Ministry of Health, as is the case of an elderly woman who died in the context of the raid.
Today’s incident is the deadliest armed clashes in West Bank territory in years and has resulted in around twenty injuries, four of whom are in serious condition.
The Israeli army carries out anti-terrorist raids in the area almost daily, often in response to Palestinian attacks, often ending in riots. With the deaths on Thursday, the number of Palestinians, civilians or members of armed groups, killed since the beginning of the year in acts of violence with Israeli forces or civilians rises to 28. On Wednesday, two Palestinian youths, including a teenager, were killed by Israeli security forces agents in separate incidents.
