The 1996 movie, “Matilda” continues to be one of the most beloved children’s films of all time. Despite the fact that it was a box office failure, the film has since become a cult classic. One of the most memorable characters in the movie was the school director, Agatha Tronchatoro, played by Pam Ferris. She was a strict, cruel and dominant woman with the students, and was even known to lock them up in “The Hole”. Her strength in the movie was so intense that it almost cost Ferris a finger in one of the scenes. During the scene where Tronchatoro grabbed a student by the hair and threw them across the room, the cable used to launch the minor cut Ferris’ finger, sending her to the hospital.
After playing Agatha Tronchatoro in Matilda, Ferris continued her acting career, appearing in a number of films such as Where the Heart Is, The Turn of the Screw, Death to Smoochy, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Children of Men, Malice in Wonderland, The Raven, and Call the Midwife!. In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Ferris played Aunt Marge.
