15 Children Among 559 People Still Stranded in Soledar, Ukraine

UkrainianGovernment: Still 559 people in Soledar where heavy fighting continues

Ukrainian authorities have announced that a total of 559 people, including 15 minors between the ages of 7 and 15, remain in Soledar, a city in the Donetsk region where intense fighting continues. The head of the Donetsk regional military administration, Pavlo Kyrylenko, in statements to the television mentioned that these people still possess all the necessary food and hygiene items and that 7 of them were evacuated from the city on Friday.

He stated, “As soon as we have the opportunity to get there to evacuate, of course we we will do it,” Kyrylenko stressed, referring to the residents who remain in Soledar.

Russia announced that assault units from the private Wagner mercenary company had taken Soledar, though Ukrainian forces deny this and say heavy fighting persists. According to Serhiy Cherevaty, spokesman for the Eastern Force Group of Ukrainian Armed Forces, Russian troops have made attempts to capture Soledar in order to advance deeper into the Donetsk region.

Though difficult to estimate, the Ukrainian government still hopes to evacuate as many civilians as possible from the region to ensure their safety. The events so far indicate that the fight over Soledar still has not been decided and the war between Ukraine and Russia over the region continues.
