Armenian Defense Ministry reports 15 soldiers dead and 3 critically injured due to an incident in a military unit

The Armenian Defense Ministry announced the death of 15 soldiers and 3 critically injured due to an incident in a military unit located in the town of Azat, in the Gerghakunik region, on the border with Azerbaijan.

According to the spokeswoman for the portfolio, Aram Torosián, the incident happened at 01:30 local time (22:30 GMT on Wednesday). The causes of the accident are still unknown.

The Armenian agency Armenpress reported that the soldiers involved in the incident were taken to a hospital in the nearby town of Verin Shorzha, but were unable to survive the injuries.

The Armenian Minister of Defense expressed deep sadness over the wounded and dead soldiers, calling it “a great tragedy for the families of the victims and for the Armenian Armed Forces.”
