13 Palestinians Have Died from Israeli Fire in 2023 So Far

Palestinian man killed by Israel forces in West Bank amid spiralling violence

A 45-year-old Palestinian man, Ahmad Kahla was killed on Sunday when Israeli forces opened fire on him in the occupied West Bank during a routine inspection, according to official sources. The incident follows a series of violence in the area which has left 13 Palestinians dead, among them three minors, in the first two weeks of 2023.

The Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that the man was taken to a local hospital where he passed away due to his serious injuries. Witnesses said that the Israeli forces shot Kahla after a verbal confrontation.

The Israel Army reported that its officers identified “a suspicious vehicle that refused to stop for a routine inspection near Silwad”, and hence used riot dispersal means to detain one suspect. The Palestinian authorities, on the other hand described the incident as “a heinous execution”.

Qusai Kahla, son of the deceased said that the soldiers fired tear gas at them and made him get out of the car. Moments later, his father was shot in the neck.

The Palestinian National Authority Foreign Ministry said that Kahla’s death is “part of the series of daily crimes committed by the occupying forces against Palestinian citizens”. He is the fourth Palestinian killed by the Israeli army over the weekend alone and the 13th in the 15 days this year.
