The Alaska Aces are currently one point out of first place in their Mountain Division with a three-game differential. The future looks bright for this team as they currently ride a six game win streak. At this rate, they should knock off the first place Idaho Steelheads shortly to sit at the top of the league standings.

How did they get here? Well, one of the most prominent reasons for the Aces success is their forward attack. Their top three forwards average more than one point per game. These stats, combined with their effective use of the penalty kill, will help launch them into the forefront of the Mountain league.

On the defensive side of the puck, the Aces boast the fewest goals against average in their division with only 57, a staggering 17 ahead of the rest of the Mountain Division, in large part due to recent ECHL goalie of the week Kevin Carr. This goals-against tally is low enough to lead the entire league.

In their upcoming three game series against the Toledo Walleyes, the Aces look to secure a spot at the top of their division. These are going to be three hard fought games, and taking two or three would be a success. The Walleyes are at the top of the Central division and have mp problem putting the puck in the back of the net. Coming into the weekend with an eight game winning streak, Toledo will not go down easy. Their power play and penalty kill units are exceptional as is their goaltending. The Aces will need to come out onto the ice prepared to do battle.

As these young Aces players look to make a name for themselves on the ice, their off-ice activities are also generating excitement from fans. In November, the Aces partnered with the United States Marine Corps for their “Toys for Tots” fundraiser, one of the best children’s charities out there. Fans were encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy to the game and throw it onto the ice for collection. It is fundraisers and events like this one that means so much to these players as it excites fans and encourages community participation.

As the season unfolds, the Aces are excited to continue their success throughout their division and season. Each game played brings them closer to the play off season where they can showcase their talents on the ice to fans and scouts alike. Ending the season in first place in their division will solidify their place in the ECHL playoff hockey realm. Look for this talented group of young players to continue to impress over the remainder of the regular season.
