DC Announces Film Slate until 2020

Image from Comicvine.com
Source: IGN.com

At a Time Warner investor meeting this week, Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara revealed it’s slate of DC Films through 2020. The current schedule is:

  • Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice directed by Zack Snyder (2016)
  • Suicide Squad directed by David Ayer (2016)
  • Wonder Woman starring Gal Gadot (2017)
  • Justice League Part One directed by Zack Snyder (2017)
  • The Flash starring Ezra Miller (2018)
  • Aquaman starring Jason Momoa (2018)
  • Shazam starring The Rock (2019)
  • Justice League Part Two directed by Zack Snyder (2019)
  • Cyborg starring Ray Fisher (2020)
    Green Lantern (2020)

Okay, where to start.

As a whole, this was unsurprising. We’ve known for months about the different actors involved in Batman v Superman and the importance that film has in broadening the DC film universe.

I am surprised by a film staring Cyborg, though, which could have some potential. I’m also surprised by how far out Shazam is from coming out. 2019 seems a lifetime from now considering they just announced The Rock a couple weeks ago for that project.

While not confirmed at this moment, I’m 100% sure that a new Green Lantern film will be a reboot sans Ryan Reynolds. It’s unknown which incarnation of Green Lantern it will be, but the rumor has always been that it would be John Stewart.

So what isn’t here?

Guillermo Del Toro’s Justice League Dark and Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Sandman both are absent from this announcement. Either Warner Bros. is holding these project closer to the chest or they’re further out then we thought. Also absent is any sequel to Man of Steel or a new Batman starring Ben Affleck. While it’s refreshing to see DC and Warner Bros. try something that isn’t Batman or Superman, I find it hard to believe that we wont see a either of those films until after 2020. I wonder how much they really do have planned.

Rumor: Suicide Squad Actor Short list and members

At Time Warner’s investor meeting this week, Warner Bros. announced plans for a Suicide Squad film for 2016 directed by David Ayer (Fury).

Suicide Squad, created by Robert Kanigher, Ross Andru, and John Ostrander, centers around a government-snactioned team of criminals forced to do suicidal missions to get a lesser sentence. If one mission’s a member goes AWOL, a collar around their neck will detonate and kill them. The modern incarnation is led by Amanda Waller and members consisting of Deadshot, Captain Boomerang and Bronze Tiger.

Even though a director was announced, neither casting or any indication which incarnation of the Suicide Squad they are going with is still unknown.

Deadline.com has reported a short list of actors and actresses who are in talks. That list includes Will Smith, Tom Hardy, Margot Robbie, and Ryan Gosling.

Latino Review also gave a hint at which team DC has chosen to be a part of this team. The members are Blockbuster, Multiplex, Jaculi, Mindboggler, Captain Boomerang, Vixen, and Deadshot. I’m sure that the main characters will be Boomerang, Vixen, and Deadshot. You’re going to need some cannon fodder, so that probably explains the rest. Also, lets hope they bring in Amanda Waller.

Rumor: Jena Malone is Playing Carrie Kelly in Batman V Superman

Source: hollywoodreporter.com
According to a report from WILX-10 News Michigan, Hunger Games star Jena Malone’s previously unrevealed role has been discovered as Carrie Kelly.

Carrie Kelly became Robin in Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns after Batman’s long absence of being the caped crusader. Kelly has only had a few appearances since Dark Knight Returns including Dark Knights sequel, The Dark Knight Strikes Back and DC’s New 52 Batman and Robin. Despite having limited exposure over the years, Kelly has lasted with a devoted fan base hoping for her return to the greater DC Universe.

The source also confirmed that Malone has died her hair red, much like Kelly in the comics.

This would be cool if it is true. The source was revealed out of fear that Warner Bros. could fine them up to $5 million for revealing inside information that would break there contract. While Batman v. Superman seems to get packed with characters, you have to wonder what this movie is going to be about? How are they going to fit all these characters in the film?

Regardless, it would be great to see Carrie Kelly on the big screen.

Rumor: Dr. Strange Shortlist of Actors Revealed

There have been many rumors as to who will play Dr. Strange over the last couple of months, but it seems Varity knows who Marvel is looking for.

Variety has posted a short list of actors who they say Marvel are in talks with. This list includes Jared Leto, Oscar Isaac, Matthew McConaughey, Jake Gyllenhaal, Ewan McGregor and Ethan Hawke.

I could see all these actors play Dr. Strange, but each of their versions would be so different that I guess it depends on what type of film Marvel is looking to shoot. Of these options, I think Oscar Isaac would be a really fun choice. I think Isaac’s stock is going to be on the rise with his upcoming roll in Star Wars, so Marvel might try to get him early before he becomes a major name.

Captain America 3 Sets the Pieces in Place for Civil War

Warner Bros. wasn’t the only studio to drop a bombshell.

First off, Robert Downey Jr. is going to be apart of Captain America 3 and his involvement is going to set the ground for the film adaptation of the Civil War story line.

Civil War, written by Mark Millar in 2006, was a storyline involving a terrible accident that lead to a split between the heroes. Half were part of the Superhero Registration Act, which would have all heroes unmask, be government-sponsored, and led by Tony Stark. The other half were against the Superhero Registration Act and were lead by Captain America.

This will be a big shift because it seemed that they were building towards some big story with Thanos, but maybe with the success of Guardians of the Galaxy, they’ll push that story back just a bit. Also, it makes we wonder if this will serve to set up the Civil War as something that happens in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Screenrant.com also brought up the possibilities of Anthony and Joe Russo taking over the Avengers franchise with Avengers 3 and 4. This would make a lot of sense since I don’t think Joss Whedon wants to do these films over and over again. Plus, off the success of Captain America 2, The Russo’s seems like a good fit for Avengers.

At New York Comic-Con, Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb moderated a panel where we discovered some new news bits about the upcoming Netflix show.

  • The costume that Daredevil will wear will be reminiscent of his costume from Frank Miller’s Daredevil: Man Without Fear miniseries.
  • Rosario Dawson’s role was revealed to be Claire Temple, who will aid Daredevil in his fight. Loeb described her character as “a nurse that works at night” insinuating that she will also be the Marvel character, Night Nurse.

Also, a listing on Playstation Networks Netflix page lists Daredevil for a May 2015 release, so expect it to début around then.

The IT Crowd Remake is Going Forward at NBC
Source: Deadline.com

Producer Bill Lawrence and Community alums Neil Goldman & Garrett Donovan have made a deal with NBC for pilot commitment based on the popular British TV show The IT Crowd.

Originally starring Chris O’Dowd, Richard Ayoade, and Katherine Parkinson, The IT Crowd centered around three members of a company’s IT department, led by Parkinson, who know nothing about computers. The show also featured shenanigans with there boss and his son.

NBC tried to do a remake of The IT Crowed back in 2007, starring a returning Richard Ayoade, but have now teamed up with Jessica St. Clair and Joel McHale. The show was canceled before airing because NBC’s Chairmen Ben Silverman said it “didn’t quite spark.” Could it have been because of the horrible laugh track I wonder?

What ever they do, its going to have some big shoes to fill because the original IT Crowd is brilliant.

Things then got weird.

Marvel then showed off a series of teasers for Summer 2015 that riffs off of past events including Civil War, Age of Ultron vs. Marvel Zombies, Years of Futures Past, and Planet Hulk.

Since the Planet Hulk teaser was released Thursday, it may not be the last teaser.
