All Women Ghostbusters Film is going forward with New Writer and Paul Feig
We first heard about Paul Feig’s all female Ghostbusters project a couple weeks ago, but it looks like it’s finally official. Fieg twitted out Thursday that “It’s official. I’m making a new Ghostbusters & writing it with @katiedippold & yes, it will star hilarious women. That’s who I’m gonna call.”
Along with this, Katie Dippold, has been brought on to write the script. Dippold has written for Parks & Recreation and is a former member of The Upright Citizens Brigade and The Heat starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. Entertainment Weekly also spoke to Feig about his plans, including it being a hard reboot.
“I had lunch with [Sony Pictures co-chairman] Amy Pascal when I got back to town. She was just saying, gosh, nobody wants to do [Ghostbusters 3] I said, yeah, it’s really hard to take that on, especially since it’s 25 years later. How do you come back into a world that’s had these ghosts and all this? It just felt too difficult. How do you do it and not screw it up?
But then it was bugging me for the next few days because Ghostbusters is such a great thing and everybody knows it, and it’s such a great world. It’s a shame to just let this thing sit there. I want to see another one. My favorite thing to do is work with funny women. I was like, what if it was an all-female cast? If they were all women? Suddenly, my mind kind of exploded: that would be really fun. And then I thought, well, what if we just make it new? It’s not coming into the world that existed before. It’s always hard if the world has gone through this big ghost attack, how do you do it again? I wanted to come into our world where there’s talk of ghosts but they’re not really credible, and so what would happen in our world if this happened today?”
Casting is still a ways off, but who would you like to see apart of this new team?
Shocking: Sony has no idea what to do with Spider-Man
This weeks major rumor is that Sony has gone nuclear on Spider-Man’s future and in turn may be teaming up with Marvel to re-tool the franchise.
Hitflix’s Drew McWeeny dropped this news that was reported by many other sites.
While I can’t get the confirmations I need to verify the story, I’m hearing that there are some very cool Spider-Man plans being discussed that would help Sony refocus their enormously important franchise while also opening up some connections in the onscreen Marvel movie universe that would blow fandom’s minds. Will it work out? I don’t know. I would love to be able to state for sure that it’s happening. What seems clear from what I’ve heard is that Marvel wants to be able to play with all of their characters, and if they can make that work creatively and on a corporate level, they will, and that means the world gets bigger again.
If this is indeed true, this would be a major acquisition for Marvel and further strengthen there upcoming lineups because who else thinks one of there unannounced films could be Spider-Man in a “just in case” scenario?
Along with this bit, Badassdigest.com writer Devin Faraci has heard different plans:
- Sinister Six will be a soft reboot of Spider-Man, having someone else play Peter Parker and be a Dirty Dozen style of film with Spider-Man teaming with the villains to take down a bigger threat.
- Spider-Man has been put on hold for four to five years to develop side characters in the Spider-verse.
- The Proposed Venom/Carnage film is dead.
This is a lot to take in. Obviously, Sony has some problems with trying to compete with Disney and Warner Bros. and throwing whatever at the wall and seeing what sticks wasn’t the way to do it. With New York Comic Con happening this weekend, maybe Sony will clarify what its plans really are.Image from Marvel.com
Deadpool will be apart of Fox’s extended X-Men Movie-verse
There has been some speculation after the announcement of Deadpool as to if it would be its own film or spin into the greater X-Men movie-verse. In an exclusive interview with Comicbook.com, X-Men: Days of Future Past writer and producer Simon Kinberg divulged that it will indeed be a part of the X-Men cannon.
“There’s definitely a sort of overall plan that we’ve all been talking about for the X-Men universe now, and Deadpool obviously fits into that. So yeah, I guess I would say it’s part of certainly an overall timeline and thought process that goes into these films, some of which is inspired by the comics and some which is inspired by seeing what Marvel’s done with telling a larger tapestry and linking all those movies together, even as they stand independently as well. The same kind of thought is going to go into these X-Men movies at Fox.” said Kinberg.
Cool, now question is will Deadpool address his appearance in X3: The Last Stand (because he should) and totally crap on it.
Zombieland 2 is back from the Dead
Just like a corpse, Zombieland 2 seems to have found new life.
After failed sequels and a failed Amazon pilot, traction seems to be gaining on a proposed sequel to the 2009 hit.
Sony Pictures has hired Dave Callaham to write the sequel along with Reuben Fletcher, who will return to direct.
The first Zombieland was a big hit for Sony when it came out, but to me it seems that Sony took a little too long to pull the trigger on a sequel to Zombieland. I loved the first Zombieland, but lets say this comes out in two years, that’s seven years removed from the first film. If the failure of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For has shown us anything, you have to strike while the irons hot and Zombieland’s iron got cold long ago.
In this Week’s Edition of “Things No One Asked For,” Tetris is Coming to a Theater Near You
Threshold Entertainment has teamed up with the Tetris Company to make a feature film based on the 1984 game of the same name.
“It’s a very big, epic sci-fi movie,” Threshold’s CEO Larry Kasanoff said. “This isn’t a movie with a bunch of lines running around the page. We’re not giving feet to the geometric shapes.”
Mostly known for Mortal Kombat films from the 90’s, there was something I know I knew him from but I couldn’t put my finger on it. It was until he said this line in the Wall Street Journal interview.
“Brands are the new stars of Hollywood, We have a story behind ‘Tetris’ which makes it a much more imaginative thing.”
Brands? This was the same team that was the guy behind the massive financive and critical failure, Foodfight! If you’ve never heard of this film, go to Youtube and look it up because it was a truly disgusting film and I’m sure what ever this company has cooked up will be just as rancid.Image from eonline.com
In News About More “Things No One Asked For,” The Rock is Starring in a Baywatch Film
The Rock announced this week on Twitter that he will be apart of a big film reboot based on the early 90’s beach franchise.
Paramount Pictures has hired Justin Malen to rewite an existing script and Sean Anders and John Morris will direct. Anders and Morris are best known for We’re the Millers and Horrible Bosses.
I can’t deal with this. Next your going to tell me that Night Court film is in the works.
Further News About More “Things No One Asked For,” Adam Sandler signed to five picture deal with Netflix
Following up with Netflix getting into the original film business with Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon 2, Netflix has announced a five picture deal with Adam Sandler.
The first film in this deal could plop as soon at 2015.
No other news was revealed except that Sandlers production company, Happy Madison, would be producing five films.
I hope they are a little more in the vain of his early work or something like Punch Drunk Love, but I suspect that it will just be more of the same that we are used to with Sandler.Image from Nerdist.com
Aubrey Plaza wants to be She-Hulk in Marvel Project
In talking with Scifinow, Parks and Recreation star Aubrey Plaza expressed her interest in playing Marvel Comic’s She-Hulk.
“She-Hulk? Oh my god, I would love to be She-Hulk, I want to be She-Hulk. Write that movie and I’ll do it. I would love to be any kind of superhero or person with super-strength.”
I would give a thumbs up to this idea. Also, if she’s not part of this all women Ghostbusters film, something is up.
Dredd EP is bring Dredd back in the form of Web Mini-series
Since its début in 2012, fans have clamored (including myself) for a new Dredd film starring Karl Urban and Olivia Thirlby and it looks like we maybe getting something soon.
Dredd Execuitive Producer Adi Shankar announced this week that he will be releasing a web mini-series based around The Dark Judges, the main antagonist of the Judge Dredd Comics.
Working in secret for two years, Shankar said that it will debut sometime at the end of the month and it will be free. It wasn’t said where it will be shown, but once the news is out, Alaska Commons will update.
This isn’t the first time that Shankar has released a comic based project online for free. Shankar also was behind The Punisher fan film Dirty Laundry starring Thomas Jane and a Venom short called Truth in Journalism. Both were very excellent and Dredd seems to be done in the same vain.
First look at Pixar’s upcoming summer film about the emotions inside a young girl. Looks wonderful.
Next film from The Iron Giant and Incredible Director Brad Bird and it also looks wonderful.
Paul Thomas Anderson film in the vein of The Coen Brothers based off the best selling book of the same name. Can’t wait for this.
Rumor: Fox Developing X-Men TV Show
Bleedingcool.com has reported that sources close to Fox say that they are in deep development on an X-Men TV show which isn’t really surprising. Actually, I’m surprised its taken Fox this long to create one.
No other big information has come of this, but with New York Comic Con this weekend, we might here some hard facts soon.
Anime Fall Preview
This week is the official start of Japan’s fall anime line-up. Japanator.com has done a really nice write up of all the new shows with a brief description and where American audience can view each show.
I’m pretty excited to start watching When Supernatural Battles Became Commonplace.
Twin Peaks Returning in 2016 to Showtime
I should really sit down and watch this show.

Due to 20th Century Fox owning Fantastic Four, there have been rumblings over what Mavel will be doing with it’s comics line. Bleedingcool.com has ran several stories over the last couple months about Marvel excluding core Fantastic Four characters from other books. Most have been unconfirmed rumors but Bleeding Cool ran something this week with a bit more substance.

Marvel Announces New Squirrel Girl Series For January
Marvel has announced a new ongoing starring fan favorite Squirrel Girl titled, Unbeatable Squirrel Girl.
Written by Ryan North and artist Erica Henderson, this new series sees the titular character balancing college and superhero life.
Created by Will Murray in 1992, Squirrel Girl, Real name Doreen Green, was a creation that was trying to get away from the seriousness for X-Men comics at the time. Not only having hightned reflexes and above average strength, Squirrel Girl also can control squirrels. Even though her powers may not be impressive, she does own (And in continuity) wins over Doctor Doom, Wolverine, and Thanos.
Thorough the years, she has become a fan favorite with readers and writers alike and I expect more news this week at New York Comic Con.
