Since 1995, the Vans Warped Tour has been packing the nation’s parking lots, stadiums, arenas, warehouses, and more with a stunning array of musical acts — centered around punk rock, but diversifying more and more as years pass. But Wednesday night would mark the first time the tour would make it to Alaska.
National acts The Devil Wears Prada, Yellowcard, All Time Low, Less Than Jake, and 303 headed the main stage behind the Northway Mall, accompanied by dozens of local acts on the local and acoustic stages. Booths ranging from Covenant House to the new Alaska Condom Company lined the perimeter, next to a makeshift beer garden that quite possibly featured the most bureaucratic red tape ever experienced in concert going history.
Despite Anchorage being blanketed with much needed rain in the lead up to the event, not a drop landed during Warped Tour’s debut, and the packed festival grounds (read: mall parking lot) was an absolute gem for patrons to take in a rare barrage of awesome performances.
And it was awesome.
Bonus: they’ve already promised to come back next year.
